Kaya Zotz
Hometown: Wailuku, Hawaii
Aloha! My name is Kaya Zotz and I'm originally from Maui HI. I received my Yoga Certification through Black Swan Yoga in Denver Co. I'm trained in Vinyasa, Hatha and Restorative yoga. My cueing style is inclusive and trauma informed. The most important thing for me as a yoga teacher is to hold space for you to connect with yourself. Honoring the roots of yoga and helping others discover the depths of this practice are at the forefront of my teaching. Yoga has given me the tools to move through some difficult situations and integrate my experiences rather than avoid or bypass them. I believe this practice has the potential to help anyone no matter what your background, ethnicity or beliefs are. My classes involve dynamic sequencing and challenging postures. You can expect my classes to involve a warm up, peak flow and cool down. I enjoy creating fun sequences that can help you drop into a flow state, connecting you to your movement through pranayama. I put a heavy focus on alignment and injury prevention as we flow. You'll notice I use both the Sanskrit and English names for asanas as this is my way of honoring the roots of yoga. When Practicing the physical forms of yoga I like to create space for all body types and anatomic abilities. We all look different in a pose and we shouldn't try to look like another. Giving my students space to explore their authentic expression is important to me. My goal is to do yoga till the day I leave this body and I'm here to help others with that journey by keeping their bodies injury free and mobile.
Who/what influences your teaching and practice currently?
My influences come from a wide range of teachers. Willow Mason who was my lead Teacher trainer in YTT. Daniel Rama whose Inversions are amazing. Iyengar. Pattabhi Jois.
How do you apply yoga practice to your every day life?
I apply yoga in many ways. Even simply becoming aware of my breath throughout my day is Yoga. I create movement pockets in my day to breath and stretch. When I interact with the world around me it's heavily influenced by the Yogic lens. Realizing we are all connected energetically and spiritually and everyone is a reflection of ourselves.
What is a fun fact about you?
I lived in Mexico for a year.
What can students expect from your class?
Students can always expect a wrist warmup. Mobility exercises. Some great music paired by creative fun sequencing. I also enjoy weaving a theme into my flows. Breathwork and Chanting, usually in the beginning and end.
All levels are welcome.
